HELPING OUR COMMUNITY
The Grafton Food Pantry is as an organization that truly brings the community together. Strong ongoing initiatives have been made to reach out to local businesses, service groups, elementary and high school students, Scouts, churches, temples, and the residents of Sun City in order to better serve the community. We also provide referrals to other agencies and programs so that our clients may have every opportunity for any support they may need. We believe in utilizing existing services, not in duplicating the efforts of other agencies. We serve the Village of Huntley, Village of Lakewood, and portions of Lake in the Hills, Crystal Lake, and Algonquin. Our generous volunteers and benefactors are of every age, religious faith and ethnicity. They work side by side helping their neighbors in need.
G celebrated her 6th birthday with her friends. When asked what she wanted for her birthday, she thought of 3 things and said she couldn't think of anything more. Since we really don't NEED more toys in our house, I asked her if she knew of a place that people needed things. She immediately thought of the Food Pantry after having visited it with her Girl Scout Troop #212 in December. I asked her if she remembered what the Food Pantry needed the most and she said toilet paper and toothpaste (toiletries). So, we asked G's friends to not bring gifts for her but rather bring toiletry donations for the Grafton Food Pantry. The day of her birthday party, her friends were more than generous with their donations. We felt very blessed that her friends honored her wishes and were so generous to help stock the shelves of the food pantry. The donations included bath soaps, deorderants, shampoos, toilet paper, Kleenex, paper towels, dish washing detergent, washing detergent, and lotions as well as monetary donations.
On our way to the Food Pantry on Monday night, G told my husband and other daughter (who had never been to the food pantry), "This place is great! You're going to love it!" Needless to say, we are proud of G and love her big, generous heart.
We will continue to donate throughout the year. Thank you for being a wonderfully organized location for people in our community!
